Kelvin has 27 years building industry experience. He commenced his apprenticeship in 1982 and qualified as a Carpenter/Joiner in 1986. He then went on to achieve his Advanced Trade Certificate and his Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
Kelvin has worked throughout the South Island during his career and also spent two years building in London & Scotland in the UK where he was invited to play rugby for Kelso on the borders in Scotland.
Kelvin started his own building team in 1990 before joining with RJ Cunningham Ltd as the Contracts Manager in 1994 where he remained until 2003. During this period the company grew its workforce from 5 to 25 staff members. Kelvin personally oversaw the companies major projects including building The Southland Hospice, The Farmers Retail Complex and 25 Victoria Ave Complex.
In 2003 Kelvin purchased the Company from Russell Cunningham and renamed it Cunningham Building & Construction Ltd. Since then the company has continued growing and now employs 40 employees.
Kelvin's passions outside of work are his family - his wife and four very active boys, and his love of rugby. Kelvin is both a sponsor and active supporter of the Southland Stags Rugby Team, and the Marist Premier Rugby Team. Kelvin coaches Marist age group rugby teams and metro teams. Kelvin also loves to take time out to go diving, swimming, duck shooting, hunting, tramping and travelling.
Kelvin's vast knowledge, experience, values and high ethical standards, along with his attention to detail, and business and people skills has allowed him to build relationships and construct quality buildings which resulted in him achieving his goal of making CBC Ltd one of the most successful building companies in Southland.
